Getting Ready to Re-open – Newborn Photography Out Of Lockdown and with Social Distancing

Aligning Government Road Map – 11th May

Getting Ready for Newborn/Baby Photography and Social Distancing

I cannot wait to get back into my newborn studio at Cams Hall and meet all the babies that haven’t been able to come to the studio and all other babies that are booked in for the summer months.  However, getting back to a new kind of normal will take time.

My business will only re-open when I feel it is safe to comply with government guidelines.   The safety of your family and mine are really important.

I am starting to get ready to re-open with some provisional timelines that align with the current Government Roadmap.

My approach will be adjusted accordingly over the next few weeks based on any updates to the guidelines but for now I am planning opening with outdoor location photo sessions with social distancing in June and then with opening of studio sessions during July.

I have quite a few bookings that have been postponed.  To help me plan my diary over the next coming months, I have outlined a few potential photo session options for you to consider.

If you could include your preference on the attached form, that would be amazing and I can get in touch with some further details.

  1. Location Outdoor Photo Sessions during June
  2. Location Outdoor Photo Session from July onwards
  3. Studio photo sessions from July onwards
  4. Postponing until a milestone event (Sitter / First Birthday)

Outdoor Location Photo Sessions with Social Distancing

Aligning with the government plans for June, I am launching some outdoor location photo sessions with social distancing in place.

When I do outdoor portraits, I have a longer lens which creates amazing photographs but I have more of a distance from the person I am photographing.

I did some test photos with my teddy Molly.  At this stage, I feel I may have to get Mummies to pose and position babies under my guidance.  We’d be outdoors and my longer lens would give me greater distance.  In lock down I have been knitting some baby outfits to make sure baby is nice and warm and we are fortunate the weather is warmer.  However, being close to the building, I can plug in an extension lead and have my studio heater keeping baby toasty warm.  For this setup we would be restricted on the number of photographs that could be taken.

Lifestyle Outdoor Family Portraits

Regardless of the age of your baby, we can take some amazing outdoor location family photographs where we definitely ensure social distancing and capturing some family photographs that you will treasure

Back at My Studio in Our New “Normal”

In preparation for reopening, I have been working on ways that I can photograph newborn/babies within the studio.  I will take into consideration any further updates from the government over the coming weeks.

As a newborn photographer, the hygiene and cleanliness of the studio has always been very important as I’m bringing newborns into the studio at just a few weeks old.  However, in the current times, I need to make sure I take extra steps to keep your little family and mine safe and healthy.

When we are out of lockdown, to provide you with an amazing newborn experience and variety of high quality images, I would love for all my newborn/baby sessions to take place in my studio.

I will come onto the steps I have taken to adapt to the new normal.

Safe handling/Posing

I would ensure that procedures are put in place that allows me to safe handle and pose your baby.  Alongside frequent hand washing, use of hand sanitiser, this would most certainly mean me wearing a fresh and clean face mask, apron and cotton clothes when handling your baby.

So what I would ask of you is…

  1. I’m sure just having a newborn, you have spent quite a lot of time at home so the risk of being exposed to the virus is probably quite minimal.  If you have any doubt and feel that you may have symptoms, let’s postpone.
  2. I would ask to keep the photo session to immediate family only,  mummy, daddy and possibly any siblings
  3. Wash hands on arrival
  4. Only bring essentials items to the photo session

So what I will do for you…

  1. I will continue to keep practising social distancing as much as possible in my personal life and if  I should develop any symptoms, I will let you know and postpone your session.
  2. I will make sure there is plenty of hand sanitiser available throughout the session
  3. I will wash my hands frequently during the session and use a face mask covering if you prefer
  4. There will limited photo sessions per day to give me time in between sessions to deep clean the studio.
  5. All fabrics and surfaces will be cleaned and sanitised
  6. Your choice of backdrops, outfits and props will be chosen prior to your session so I can ensure that they are fresh and washed for your photo session.
  7. Should you allow me to handle your baby, for each session I will put on a freshly washed apron over my clothing to protect your baby.  I will wear freshly washed cotton gloves and of course wear a face mask.
  8. Before the session, I will discuss with you whether you wish your baby to be naked or wrapped with nappy left on.

Postponing your session for a Milestone Event

Within my studio, I normally take newborns, sitters (6-9 months) and first birthday photographs.  It’s not always easy to photograph babies between 1-6 months as they can be fussier, more awake and less womb-like.

However, you may decide that missing out on a newborn session, you want to capture your baby as soon as possible and we can definitely do this.  When I have an older baby I just modify the session and change it to make it a bit simpler and focused on more awake images

By photographing different stages you get to experience many different things and seeing how a baby changes to interact more with you is an amazing experience! If I photograph a baby from one month to 3 months old, I still try to swaddle them as most babies generally like this still as it makes them feel cozy and happy. We photograph swaddled while lying down in bowls, on my rug etc to get a variety of images and backdrops.  For baby 3-6 months, I can photograph them on their tummies as they are usually able to lift and support their heads.

However, you may decide that would like to wait for a milestone….

Sitters (6-9 Months)

Time goes so quickly.. beautiful timeless photographs of the milestone when your baby is able to sit confidently and quick to smile and giggle.  Sitter portrait photo sessions mark the milestone when your baby is able to sit up confidently unsupported, usually between 6-10 months.  It such a special time when your baby develops their own personality and quick to smile and giggle.

First Birthday

You might prefer to wait and have some beautiful timeless photographs of the milestone when your baby reaches it’s first birthday. First birthday portraits mark an important milestone in your child’s life that you will not want to forgett

Keeping in Touch

I’ll continue to keep and touch and looking forward to booking in your photo session very soon

Keep Safe
