A ‘Sliding Doors’ Moment for Newborn Baby Photographers

Newborn Photographer Hampshire shares a sliding doors moment……Last weekend, me and my partner took a little weekend breakaway and went to visit my family in my hometown of Swindon.  Little Richard (my cat) went on his holidays to the Greenbarn Cattery in Newtown.  Richard loves it there, as the owner’s daughter plays with him; I’m sure he gets more play time with Amy than at home.  Keep an eye out over the coming weeks, as I have planned a fine art photography session with Richard and Amy.  If you are interested in a children’s fine art photography session, then I would love you to get in touch.

My Gwyneth Paltrow Moment

You might be wondering why I have titled this blog post a ‘Sliding Doors’ Moment?  Have you ever seen the film Sliding Doors where Helen, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, plays out two scenarios; one where she misses the train and the other where she catches the train?  From what I remember of the film, she gets to the same outcome but just a different journey to achieve it.  It was meant to be.

I trained as a baby photographer at the Newborn Art Academy and it was truly the best investment in my newborn photography training that I could have ever done.  The academy was based in my hometown, just down the road from where we were staying in Swindon.  It has remained a successful newborn photography studio in the town.  Coming out of the local Co op store, there was a sliding door moment where I got to bump into one of the trainers.  We then headed back to their studio to have a catch up.

This sliding doors story has inspired me to tell you about my training and why it is so important to me.

The Baby Whisperer

When mummies and daddies come to my lovely newborn photography studio at Cams Hall, they are amazed at my baby settling techniques and they will quite often use these techniques at home.  For example, one of my simplest soothing techniques is the hairdryer; the sound of the hairdryer creates white noise as well as a little warmth.  One mum recently said “you were brilliant with her, definitely a baby whisperer”.

Newborn photography is quite a niche market, and I’m not sure all mummies and daddies realise that when they book their sessions.  A skill of any photographer, whether wedding, branding or corporate, is having the skill of lighting and composition, and of course how to use your camera.  A newborn photographer needs to have the additional skill of being a baby soother.  If their little one isn’t settled, it would be very difficult for any skilled photographer to capture those amazing curled up sleepy positions.

Layla’s Family

I wanted to share with you one of my recent reviews from one of my very special newborn sessions.  It just goes to show how special newborn photography is to my visiting families and the training that I invested in allows me to create more than just a photography experience.

Our experience at Jennifer’s photography was wow!  From arriving at a beautiful setting where her studio is based, being so friendly, and the warm and handling Layla with love and care, to incredible newborn pictures that we will cherish forever!  We had the maternity shoot and newborn shoot all in one package and it was so worth it!  Thank you so much Jennifer for making our photography sessions not just fun but an experience!

Love from Faye, Ash and Layla ❤

I would love to hear from you if you are interested in a newborn photography session.
