Trendy Vs Timeless – Gracie 16 days old

[vc_row][vc_column][az_column_text]With Halloween just around the corner, this American tradition has become increasingly popular within the UK. As local grocery stores start stocking the shelves with Halloween goodies, I have seen this trend become a theme within newborn photography. Hats and tutus start popping up everywhere!

It’s no secret that photography is always changing its styles and having new trends. I am sure you remember those black and white photos with the elements picked out and made red or that perfect vintage Instagram filter. But are trends something to go by when it comes to newborn photography?

There is one word that comes to mind when I think of the perfect newborn photo – TIMELESS. Creating newborn art is all about solid photography capturing beautiful moments, at that specific time. I want to take photographs that all parents and their children can look at ten-twenty years from now and appreciate. I feel that an image is great because of its contents, its meaning, its history and its future. It is finding and using whatever technique best highlights these features to ensure that it can become a timeless piece of personal art.

Simply capturing a beautiful baby is timeless in itself. There is nothing more exquisite and natural than a newborn baby. But if we are truly trying to achieve a never dating photo what do we think makes an image timeless?

Would making all images black white ensure that they can stand the test of time?[/az_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][az_single_image image=”644″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][az_single_image image=”645″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][az_single_image image=”648″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][az_single_image image=”647″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][az_column_text]I got to meet Gracie when she was just 16 days old, and I believe these images have captured the timeless look. Gracie was so well behaved on her photo session. To create this look, it is best to keep the imagery simple with no props, no clothes or gimmicks. It is all about Gracie and how beautiful she is.

We were able to capture lots of stunning images but this one, in particular, I believe, is a perfect example of timeless. Whether the image is in colour or black and white, I believe in 30 years time it will be just as beautiful. With the simple background and positioning of this beautiful baby, there is no fuss; it’s all about the subject of the photo.[/az_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][az_single_image image=”650″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][az_single_image image=”649″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][az_column_text]I will leave you with my thoughts on two questions; are props and themes more of an American trend and do UK mums want timeless simplistic newborn photographs?  Is there a balance between classic poses and the use of props and accessories? In my opinion, a timeless photograph should not be affected by the passage of time or changes in “fashion”.

Do you think it is best to keep newborn photos simple? I would love to hear your thoughts and comments on the trendy vs timeless debate.
